Career Day Presenter Overview
Purpose:
· To support career development by exposing students to careers
· To enhance students’ understanding of citizenship, which is a component of the social studies curriculum.
Audience:
· 5th grade students
Content of Presentation:
1. Provide a general description of your job.
2. Ask students to predict how your job contributes to the community.
3. Describe what knowledge and skills are required to do your job (reading, writing, math, problem solving, communication).
4. Provide a hands-on activity and/or demonstration related to your job.
5. Answer students’ questions.
Helpful hints: Students are better able to attend when visuals are used as
part of the presentation. Examples may include posters, video clip, and/or props.

Attention 5th grade parents and students: You may want to browse these websites for information about how to make the transition to middle school easier. There is an abundance of information for both students and parents.
For kids:

http://kidshealth.org/kid/feeling/school/middle_school.html - Many topics for kids to browse through. Includes "Kids Talk: Real stories form real kids". Gives kids a do-able list of things to do to prepare for the first week. Also in Spanish.
For parents:
