Fourth Grade Program
As the school counselor, a big part of my job is to teach social skills that students need to live happy and successful lives. In fourth grade, I use the Steps To Respect – a bullying prevention program to teach these skills. The program incorporates a variety of activities, video segments, and a lot of discussion to teach the following social skills:
1. making and keeping friends
2. joining a group and handling rejection
3. recognizing, dealing with, and reporting bullying
4. understanding the difference between assertive and aggressive behavior
5. handling conflicts
6. understanding the difference between a conflict and a bullying situation
7. using self-talk to manage emotions
8. controlling rumors
9. taking responsibility as the bystander in bullying situations
I very much enjoy working with your children. I also appreciate parent support in helping to make West Friendship a safe, caring, and respectful school.
